Ancestor
ghost crying because the kids are being taken from their homelands. The kids
hiding, in the misty beard of the ancient ancestor, white people finding them
and taking them away from their parents, culture, and their way of life. |

This is the
story of the coming of age, for young girls. (As it is
secret women’s business the Story is

This is a
very special story; it’s about my daughter (Tammy) and me. We swim together
in the sea, I (fish) move very quickly through the, my daughter being
(turtle) the slower of the two. I teach my daughter many things as we swim. I
teach my girl about survival, women’s business and her culture. One day she
will be the fish and her daughter will be the turtle. |

This is the
story about my husband and his totem, the Wedged-Tailed Eagle. The brown
circle represents the eye of the eagle; inside that eye are his song and dance
lines. The grey around the outside depicts the healing and the medicines. |

Man knows
when it is time for him to go walkabout, to find himself. This man is doing
this, on his own and in the moon light; you can see the spirits dancing, high
above him. |

This story is
about the Tasmanian Tiger. I dream a lot about the tiger, and this painting
is one of those dreams. Hank and I
loved to go bush walking whenever we got any spare time, so in my dream we went
to Devils Gullet up on Kupperunna Niara (mountain of the spirits) for the day, as we were
walking, I heard a noise up in front, we stopped and waited. Then out of the
darkness of the bush, walked the great tiger ghost. The brown jiggered marks represent the cliffs of Devils Gullet. The ghost roams. |

The faces
that appear are the faces of our old & young ancestor spirits, crying
because the healing of the people and the land still hasn’t taken place. You can see the faces crying tears, in the dreamtime (the milky way) the yellow line with footprints shows the journey to get there. |

This story
is one of sadness but yet must be told. The circle at the top represents
European settlement, the smaller circles are the children who were taken from
their parents, to go and live and be trained by “white people”, to be a
“civilized half-caste”. It also depicts some of the adults tried to escape by
trying to swim, back to mainland |
